Conventional fuels are becoming more and more costly to produce these days. Petroleum, propane, natural gas and coal are considered as fossil fuels. Uranium on the other hand is categorized as nuclear power. It is a fact that these fuels have provided for the human race since the day it was invented. However, through several generations, it has been established that these are not only harmful to the environment but to the consumers alike.

With the growing need for fuel, alternative fuels have been developed and produced. These would include hydrogen, biodiesel, non-fossil methane, vegetable oil, non-fossil natural gas, fuel cells and batteries (electricity), and bioalcohol such as ethanol, methanol and butanol.

For several decades, the greenhouse effect has consistently plagued our environment. This is the time when people have finally learned to protect nature for the sake of future generations. With the help of alternative fuels, we will be able to reduce greenhouse emissions and provide a key to saving what is left of our planet's health.

The sprout of this developing industry has paved ways to create more jobs to people all over the globe. The aim of eliminating the need for conventional fuels has grown from a thought to a full-scale propaganda. Some of these non-conventional fuels are impractical to produce at the moment. This is why further research and development is being conducted to find better means of production. To some, it is because of the lack of a natural reserve for the compound to be used such as that of hydrogen.

Other alternatives which require the use of oil has taken measures to create larger plantations to cater to the demand of production. There are some, particularly palm oil has pushed some governments to cut-down their forests to create larger planting grounds.

The long-term goal is to replace conventional fuel with these natural and safer fuels. There are some stipulations as to the actual efficiency of non-conventional fuels. Careful considerations have been made to be able to prove how well these will work for the masses.

Apart from the fact that this new industry can create more jobs for more people, it also provides us, the consumers the opportunity to choose. We will be able to select which form of fuel would work best for us in terms of efficiency and cost. As most of these non-conventional fuels are already being promoted and used around the world, soon enough consumers would no longer need to worry about price hikes in the petroleum market.
